Infusing Colors!!!!!!!

Hey!!
When it comes to decorating your home, most of us play it safe with neutral colors by  opting for browns, beiges, creams, off-whites and greys. It takes a lot of courage to opt for a bright color on  your sofa or any other pieces of furniture over a safe neutral piece. Now, today the focus will be on how one can infuse colors into the home decor without going over-the-top.

Some handy tips:-

1. PUT ON A THEME - Think about a theme and work on it. For ex. : You can go for lotus theme with pink accents, lotus candle votives, pink cushions, lotus flowers etc. Or you can also opt for peacock theme by going gaga over vibrant blues and greens in cushions, throws, wall color, mor pankhi in a vase. You just need to broaden your imagination.Go for different themes and shop for it.

                                                                    (peacock theme)

2. PAINT A SINGLE WALL IN BRIGHT HUES: Instead of going all white/cream on your walls (I know it looks serene...but we talking about colors right?), paint a single wall in colors such as yellows, oranges, pinks, reds, blues, greens or even black(you gotta be super daring to try this...but trust me it looks stunning). You can also go for different patterns or wall stickers on the wall to make it the focal point of your room.

3. RUGS: Rugs add an interesting element of warmth to your room. These can instantly brighten up any space. Buy your rugs/ mats in vibrant hues and coordinate or contrast with your room decor. These are available in different shapes and sizes and in various textures too. Just throw on a rug and bring on the floor cushions to glam up your space.

4. BRING IN THE NATURE: If you aren't willing to paint your wall bright or changing your upholstery in bright hues, but still want to infuse some colors, then nature comes to the rescue.Bring in your lush green plants, garden cuttings, flowers from marigolds, cosmos, roses, tulips and even the wild varieties. They will add a pop of color without going over-board. Place them in every possible corner of your house and instantly see the difference. Put your garden cuttings/ flowers in vases, kettels, cups, soup bowls(yaa...and I am not joking...just try it once), wine bottles or in any thing that you think can hold them.

5. DRAPES: Yes..Yes..Yess...long flowing drapes in bright bright colors are to die for. Get them in sheer or in opaque , these are the best way of adding the color to the decor. If your overall decor is in neutral shades, then your drapes in shocking colors(magenta, pinks, maroons, reds, greens, yellows, purples.........any color from the rainbow I mean) will act as a contrast and will give definition to your room. But if you already have too much color in your decor, then go subtle on the color of your drapes.Too much color can sometimes be a bit eye souring.

6.PAINTINGS: Buy your paintings large, colorful and bright. The paintings are the best alternative if you dont wish to paint your wall but still want some color.

7. CUSHIONS/THROWS/RUNNERS: Bright colored cushions, throws and runners looks alluring and brightens up the dullest of the space. Buy your cushions in different shapes and sizes and make sure they are uber fluffy. Put on a bright colored throw on your neutral sofa, and if you have a bright sofa then you could either add a contrasting color or some neutral colored throw.

Their are just plenty of ideas to add colors to your decor. Toss your imagination a bit and look how it makes a difference.

NEW LOVE: ARBOR

Hey Everybody!!

Lately, I have been browsing a lot through pinterest and this has led to me falling in love with  stunning arbors/pergolas that adorn the gardens. The concept of these looks so mesmerising and I am having a strong urge to have these in my gardens also. I am taking this as a project and the process of convincing my parents will start from TODAY only....how badly I want these I cant even express.... already have tons of ideas for my front garden and backyard...these are surely an awesome way to glam up your garden and giving height to your greens....
I am already daydreaming and designing a pergola for the backyard with loads of lights, bamboo furniture, lanterns, terracotta bells, rustic long table, greens and flowers hanging down from these....ohhhh I am drooling over these and I know I wont be at peace until I will get one....
Now for the sake of my 'drooling-over-all-things-rustic-and-green' mind's peace....My parents will have to give in for this new demand of mine.

Aww, my lovelies I'm surely gonna get you home....

How do you like these??? You too drooling over or not????Share with me in the comments section.

DE-CLUTTER....DIWALI IS ALMOST HERE!!!

Hey all!

Its October already....can you belive that..???? Time flies so fast....and now the festivities are lined up and their will be celebration time again.... Navratris, Dusshera, Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaiya dooj....all lined up... ohh gosh... Their is soooooooooooo much too do and soooo little time.. In India here we have a ritual of cleaning up our houses thoroughly before Diwali because its a saying that Goddess Laxmi comes and showers her blessings in your home only if it is clutter-free(this is what I was told)...I have sweet memories of how my mother used to include me in all the Diwali cleaning...I was usually given my closet and study table to clean...and all the dusting thingie that I hated... So every year cleaning and de-cluttering starts a month before Diwali... We discard some stuff and buy some new stuff... And with Diwali comes a lot of shopping...yeahh...one of the reasons I love this festival..So here I am sharing with you all some de-cluttering tips we (me and my fab mom) follows:

  • Make a list of things to do(clean/de-clutter) for that day. Prioritize the list.

  • One thing at a time- Follow this rule...eaither take up one room at a time, or one thing(ex. fans, switch boards, lights, windows, doors, closet etc).
  • Discard the thing that has not been used since 6 months...It really is of no use to you...Donate it.

  • Spend 5 mins vizualizing the room..It will help you in de-cluttering.
  • Reward yourself with something beautiful for every room you de-clutter.
  • Divide and Rule: Make partitions in drawers and cupboards, this will help you store more.

  • Complete each task completely.Dont leave any thing half way, complete it before taking up anything new.
  • First clean and de-clutter and then buy something for your home. Dont do the vice-versa.
  • Try re-cycling stuff that is not much of use, ex.You can use jars from your kitchen to grow plants.

  • Use small cartons/shoe boxes to store the stuff that is not in much use everday.

So buck up guys,....Those days are back again.

(How do you de-clutter...do tell me in the comments section)

THRIFT WONDER

Hey all,
Today I am sharing with you all, a wall art that was a thrift buy from a shop here in Gurgaon.... Now this wooden marvel was meant to be placed at the entrance when it was bought.... it was not in such condition to be put it inside because of its withered rugged looks...then we decided to paint it.... and black was the ultimate choice...although gold would have also looked awesome, but anywhoooo.... and after the paint and all finishing,....it is hanging pretty in our living room....I think it was destined to be inside the house.
Have a look.

The contrast of black with green looks alluring.
